Blog #11: How to host the perfect christmas event

Blog #11: How to host the perfect Christmas event ☃️

Now that the Christmas adverts have hit our television channels, we thought it was time for the Genero Christmas blog.

Whether you’re hosting your town’s annual Christmas fair, wanting to pull off a winter wonderland, or are just having a gathering of friends and family at the most wonderful time of the year – our suggestions are adaptable to large and small-scale events.

So we’ve made a list, and we’ve checked it twice because when it comes to events, we have the final sleigh…

Discover & share this Christmas Spirit GIF with everyone you know. GIPHY is how you search, share, discover, and create GIFs.

  1. Winter Cocktails 🍸

Eggnog, mulled wine (or cider), hot toddy, spiked hot chocolate, Irish coffee. Anything that tastes good when heated! This idea proves very popular for a winter celebration and can be adapted into non-alcoholic beverages for the non-drinkers and children out there. You can set up a stall, hire a pop-up bar or easily knock these up by yourself to impress the crowds/your guests. There’s nothing quite like wrapping your cold hands around a steaming cup of delicious goodness when it’s chilly outside.

  2. Christmas Food 🦃

We suggest keeping it local. Support your lovely local high-street! Hog roast from the town’s butchers ✅ mince pies from the bakery ✅ whip up some bubble and squeak bites with fresh produce from your veggie shop ✅ Street food is always very popular - why not call up and ask vendors to do a Christmas twist on their classic dishes.

  3. Music 🎶

An essential for any Christmas event. If you can have the music on a stage, even better. Obviously a brass band playing Christmas carols is right up there with the best Christmas entertainment, but a local choir singing Last Christmas and Jingle Bells is equally festive! We’re thinking something along the lines of Love Actually’s school concert, shame we won’t have Hugh Grant turning up for the grand finale though! If in doubt, however, Buble’s Christmas album on the speakers is always a winner.

  4. Santa 🎅

It really does go without saying. No Christmas event is complete without the man himself. Santa brings the Christmas magic to any event, just make sure your ‘Santa’ fits the bill. We’re talking bushy white beard, twee little spectacles and a jolly, round stomach - otherwise no one will be convinced!

  5. Reindeer 🦌

Not essential, but having reindeer at your event REALLY makes it magical. We would recommend pretend reindeer at a smaller event, but if you’re hosting a big one, real reindeer go down a treat (as long as they are not kept in a pen that is too small!). Reindeer are particularly fantastic because a surprising proportion of the adult population seem to think that they are mythical Christmas creatures, so it’s a great surprise to see them in real life for some people.

  6. Competitions 🏅

Competitions bring an extra layer of excitement to an event. You could hold one for the Best Fancy Dressed Pet Dog, or who can make the Prettiest Bauble, or even host a Christmas talent show.

  7. Fairground Games 🎡

Proper old-school fairground games with Christmas themed presents. Coconut Shy, Hook-a-Duck, Lucky Dip. These types of games bring people together and encourage competition. You could suggest local businesses get involved, they could even contribute to the gifts available!

We hope you’ve enjoyed our Christmas event suggestions, we also hope that even if you aren’t hosting an event, that we’ve inspired you on a more low-key scale for your own Christmas celebrations.

In the meantime, have your elf (couldn’t resist… sorry), a merry little Christmas. 🧝🎄🎁☃️
