Newport Bus Celebration Event

The Event:

Who: Newport Transport

What: A live celebration event with 70 delegates.

Where: ICC Wales, Newport

The background:

This event with Newport Transport, intended to create a celebration event of Newport Bus becoming ‘Greener, Smarter, Safer’, was due to take place in 2020 but with all the restrictions imposed, the event was postponed until 2022.

Newport Bus have come a long way since 1901, when they took over the city’s horse-drawn service, the beginnings of the municipal bus operation. In February 2019 they received a grant from the Office of Low Emission Vehicles and placed an order for 15 fully electric, zero emission buses; with operation beginning in August 2019.

We’re proud at Genero Productions to be partnering with a company with such legacy.

Our aim:

Newport Bus wanted to bring their staff and suppliers together not only to say thank you, but to highlight just what they had achieved in terms of environmental practices and the launch of their electric bus fleet.

For Genero Productions, our aim was to deliver a large-scale, engaging employee celebration event which also included elements designed to promote, with enthusiasm and energy, the new Newport Bus electric fleet.

The event itself:

Seventy invited guests were in attendance ranging from internal employees, Welsh Government officials and members of the press. The day was hosted by one of Genero Group’s Directors, former Welsh rugby player, Tom Shanklin.

In order for attendees to experience an electric bus journey, parking was arranged for guests off-site, they were then transferred to the ICC Wales by one of the Newport Bus electric buses.

Also at the event was celebrity chef, Mathew Pritchard, famed for his environmentally friendly, vegan dishes, who cooked a recipe from his new book “Dirty Vegan: Proper Banging Vegan Food” which audience members absolutely loved. Matt then stayed to sign a copy of his new book for every guest in attendance. He also signed a further 80 books that Newport Bus will be using to raise money for Newport Mind, a charity they support frequently.

Throughout the day, attendees were commenting on how outstanding the ICC Wales venue was. The views out to the forest were perfectly in-keeping with the ethos of Newport Bus and of the ‘green’ theme of the day.

You’ll see from the photographs how the venue changed the lighting and the beautiful furniture used for the tea and coffee and food buffet blended into the forest backdrop perfectly.

The Results:

The event was a great success, with senior management of Newport Bus discussing a future employee event for next year before this event had even finished.

The event was able to encapsulate to everyone there how Newport Bus is really ahead of the times economically and environmentally as they become more efficient in reducing emissions, and also their carbon footprint, within the Newport City area.

We were very happy to have been involved with the production and management of this event and look forward to working with Newport Bus in the future.
