Making news all over Wales this summer was the spectacular Weeping Window which flowed beautifully out of the Senedd at Cardiff Bay.

It’s no surprise the display attracted crowds. Whether it was the remembrance, sentiment or the captivating red poppies, this beautiful attraction was on the summer must-see list for most.

Made up of 4000 ceramic poppies, these striking flowers cascaded down the glass front of the Senedd and spread out over the slate steps upon reaching the ground. But what was behind the structure of the display that made it withstand all the elements for nearly two months? A simple but effective material: plywood.

Genero had the painstaking task of drilling hundreds of holes into forty large sheets of plywood that would be home to the poppies' steel stems. Painted the exact same grey and grooved in line with the slate at the Senedd, the installation was a seamless piece to complement the design.
